Monarch season is off to a slow start here in Florida, just saw my first migratory monarch a few days ago. Anyone else seeing a dearth of butterflies locally? Since Ian, my population overall hasn’t bounced back and I’m wondering how much of an impact the hurricane had on the migratory monarchs. Hoping they are just later than usual, and not largely absent.

For the first time in three years, or since Before COVID  (BC), the city held the annual GreenThumb festival. Despite the lapse, it was well-attended, probably more than the 30-40k they’ve had in the past, with plenty of vendors. Orchid vendors were by far the most popular category, with upwards of 10 specific orchid vendors, followed by houseplants, bromeliads, and edibles. Surprisingly, there were a fair amount of places selling Desert Roses too (surprising to me anyway, because those things are hideous), as well as many selling garden “art”, most of which did not appeal to me. Naturally plants were acquired, although I don’t have a full listing. There were a few things that I failed to secure, and which I will need to acquire in the next few weeks at more usual sources, namely butterfly plants, a Russell avocado, an Allspice, and some Thai Basil.
